The goal of this page is to give a global perspective on the problems of the world and the way to fixing them, if can be singled out.

The problems it's looking to identify must clearly be identified as bad. "hunger, violence..." and similar.

Note: try to stick to Millions when quoting figures regarding to worldwide population or budget, in order to keep a better perspective. 265 millions has the trick to unconsciously seem higher than 1.2 billions

List of the problems (please categorize if relevant)
Health
Hunger
*Basal metabolism is between 4600 and 9200 kJ a day depending on stature, age and gender.
**Physically active people must be able to spend a minimum of 12,500 kJ a day.
:Most people around the world require daily physical exertion.
*1000M people are considered malnourished
*36M people die of malnutrition every year (58% of the yearly death toll)
**Of which 5M children, more than half the child-death toll.
Source: Wikipedia
:Children have higher basal metabolism and are more subject to die from lack of calories.
:Note that the causes of death for children must be somewhat dramatic. They can't die of natural causes.
*884M 13% people have no access to a protected source of water
:Source: Wikipedia
**Links to hygiene and epidemies
Drugs
*Due to low income, XXX people are not in the position of getting treatment for a grave illness or accident.
Diseases
*Epidemic prevention is bellow current standard for XXX people
*Epidemics are not worried about in regions where XXX people live.

Violence
War
Megadeath war like WW1 and 2 seem to be out of fashion. The most deadly recent conflict (Congo) has killed 4M over the course of 6 years (98-04), which is way bellow the rate achieved mid-century in Europe.
*Sudden death from war does not represent a significant death toll.
:Source: Heavy web research. Put numbers if you can.
*XXX people are directly affected by a war in the past 10 years
:Can someone dig that number?
*Amount spend yearly worldwide on military: $1,500,000M ($1,5T)
**3% of the World GDP
**Of which 46% is only for the USA (10 times that of the nr2 (China))
**Rising steadily at the rate of 6% per year.
*Estimated arm contraband budget worldwide: XXXX
**It seems there are no available figures, neither in $ nor in volume.
**An high availability of guns on a black market is likely to tip political protest into violence.
***Violent protest seem to not work very well. Non violent protest is more likely to lead to change.
**Reducing the availability of weapons is likely to promote social change, in addition to reducing war consequences. (Move to "solutions")

Crime
Cultural violence
On women
On kids
Inequalities
*Racial
*Gender
*Social

Overpopulation
**2010 growth rate: 1.2%, steadily losing 0.03 points every year
**Leads to a 2050 peak of 9,200M people followed by a decline (prospect likely to change).
Carrying capacity of the Earth
Current: 5,100M humans reducing steadily (as developing countries are developing and consume more per capita).

Arable land available on Earth: 10 to 20% of exposed surface:
CIA factbook: 15M sq km
Webster: 31M sq km
Irrigated: 2,7M sq km source (also CIA factbook)
:It could be something as unimportant as lithium. If one ingredient goes missing, many recipes will be unavailable.

70% of drinking water goes to irrigation.

Ecology
*Fossil fuel is running out
*Biodiversity is running out
*Desertification
*Climate change
*Possible rise of the sea level
*Few recycling chains are available
*The planet will be handed over to the next generation in a worse state

Causes of problems
Do not try to make one cause correspond to one problem. War creates violence AND famines for example. Stick to what is clearly causing problems globally.

Let's also concentrate of causes that can be fixed at an acceptable cost.

Please post your name if you're criticizing an entry.

Market economy
*Consumer side: Consumption society : Material possessions as a way to happiness is causing society to produce non-sustainable quantities.
*Producer side: Cutting costs at all price / Worker exploitation / Creation of artificial needs in consumers
Representative democracy
*Elections: Need to please the people to govern.
*Easy for well organized interest groups to create lobbies
*Short mandates = Priority given to short term objectives
Inconsistent financial system
*The more complex a system, the more exploitable.
*Easy to escape regulation through financial havens
*Lack of transparency
**Lets the same financial entity be sold multiple times.
**Makes it difficult to check the solvency of a financial institution.
*Increasing automation that increases the risk of catastrophic runaway.
Media, race for attention
*Misinformation of the consumer
*Exageration of problems
*Sensationalism
*Combined with representative democracy, a great power is in the hands of private interests.
Corruption
*Power corrupts
*Greed corrupts
Broken education system
*Clueless parents, debilitating education
*Schools inefficient or elitist
*Children are easy to manipulate / harness

Goal
Economics
*Economical system that integrates the social and ecological factors in the essence.
*Advertising as "information about a product you might not have heard of" rather than "creation of needs".
*Put the consumer and the producer in the same boat (because that's where they are).
Growth
*An economic growth based on the capability of a sector to grow sustainably.

Education
*Relevant
**Localized
**Globalist
*Efficient
*Egalitarian, equalizing
*For all, around the world

politics
*Administration system optimized for longterm objectives.
*Maximised and optimized fragmentation of political power.

*Stop the destruction of ecosystems.
*Reconstruct the destroyed ecosystems.

How to get there
Whatever you suggest must be DOABLE. In less than a year if possible.

For anything that can't be done in one year, please tag with LT for Long Term.

Finance
*Modernize the concept of money-as-trust.
**Base the trust-value on actual personal trust.

War

This page is an attempt to draft an efficient and ethical distribution system for cultural content. In the context of the clash between production lobbies and the general public.

The issue is particularly sensitive in the field of music but has already spread to cinema and videogames and will soon affect literature. It would be good to keep a wide angle focus on the terms "artist".

The current model
An artist only produces art.

For the needs of production, promotion, distribution, artist usually hire producers (distributors, editors... the name varies). The producers usually takes a major part of the revenue generated (90% for record producers and book editors). In most cases, the copyright to the creation is shared between the artist and the producer.

The distribution model usually involves printing hard copies of a digital content, shipping it to the sales point and selling them with huge margins ; and suppressing peer to peer sharing of the content.

It should be too hard to find a more efficient alternative.

Intro

* objectif : se faire plaisir !
* pour ne pas être en concurrence avec la ville, il faut planter les endroits délaissés par les jardiniers municipaux : autour d'arbres, de poteaux, goutières...
* Si on plante des légumes, est-ce qu'on va pouvoir les manger même si des chiens font caca dessus et que les pots d'échappement échappent pleins de trucs pas bons dessus ? Plus sérieusement se pose la réelle question de la comestibilité des légumes plantés dans ce type d'espace urbain. Des recherches doivent déjà être effectuées, il faudrait en trouver les résultats et les communiquer pour que chacun soit au courant de ce qu'il mange.
* Il est plus pertinent (et économique) de faire des tests sur les produit que sur les sols.
* Rajoutons de la biodiversité en ville ! Réapproprions nous l'espace public !
* Autosuffisance alimentaire des villes... on en parle, mais finalement, est-ce que c'est possible ? Si on essaie pas un tout petit peu, c'est sur qu'on pourra pas voir beaucoup de changement !
* Marre de voir des pensées (les fleurs) moches dans les bacs prévus pour, toutes bien alignées et qui changent toutes les 3 semaines ! Si on faisait autre chose ?
* Peut-être qu'on pourrait faire deux choses différentes ? Planter des fleurs un peu partout où elles pourraient pousser et des légumes dans des endroits un peu plus abrités, pour un suivi plus régulier jusqu'à la récolte, et peut être même pouvoir les manger ?
* Pas de cadre trop défini pour cette action, il faut qu'on reste le plus souple possible, comme ça, tout le monde s'implique comme il veut, et tout le monde est content
* Initiation au jardinage de manière collective et ludique
* Avant, tout le monde avait un jardin. La ville ne nous permet plus de disposer de cet espace. Et si on se le réappropriait de manière citoyenne ? Si on recréait des sols ? Idée : liner de piscine + feuilles mortes suffisent pour faire pousser des fraises des bois.
* Côté éducation / citoyenneté pour que les enfants arrêtent de croire que les patates poussent sur les arbres et que les tomates se déterrent en hiver !
* Gratuité dans l'espace public ! Interpellons les passants en nous baladant avec des arrosoirs et des binettes !
* Des légumes font de super fleurs, pensons aux topinambours !
* Lancer des graines sur des chantiers par exemple peut être un bon moyen de lutter contre l'ambroisie.
* Idée ! Si on faisait des pochoirs en forme de carottes ou autre pour remplacer les fleurs à l'entrée des villes par des légumes ?
* Plantons par quartier. Organisons nous en petits groupes locaux pour planter vers chez nous. C'est plus sympa de le faire à plusieurs, mais c'est aussi plus sympa quand c'est en bas de chez nous ! On peut préparer les semis et les bouquets volants ensemble et ensuite, répartissons-nous géographiquement !
* Pourquoi ne pas faire une carte des lieux disponibles et repérés pour que l'on sache où mettre nos petites graines ,
* On peut aussi faire des tontines pour mettre les plants en hauteur et qu'ils soient moins touchés par la pollution urbaine
* En ville, tout est si bien organisé. Mais pourtant, ce qu'on veut, ce ne sont pas forcément des arbres et des parterres bien alignés. La nature à l'état "sauvage" n'est pas si présente autour de nous. Amenons-la, elle se débrouillera bien sans nous une fois qu'on aura lancé le truc !
* Les pigeons c'est bien, mais peut-être qu'il pourrait y avoir d'autres espèces d'oiseaux ? Si on plantait des céréales, ça pourrait par exemple attirer des passereaux ?
* Jardiner ensemble est un bon moyen de partager l'expérience, les bons coins, les bonnes graines...
* Lart potager pourrait peut-être remplacer les discussions autour des crottes de chien et les tags pendant les conseils de quartier ? Ce serait là l'occasion de faire tourner la discussion autour de sujets positifs !
* Le chantier du musée de la confluence est à l'arrêt pour le moment. Si on en profitait pour le recouvrir de fleurs ?
* Spontanéité, légèreté doivent être les cadres de cette action...
* Les robins des graines sont une action complémentaire des jardins partagés. Ils peuvent d'ailleurs s'aider mutuellement, en se prêtant outils, semences ou autre !
* Éveiller les sens, mais TOUS les sens !! Si les plantes dans la ville, c'est joli, on peut aussi faire en sorte que ça sente bon quand on passe. Alors plantons des herbes qui fleurent bon et aromatisons nos quartiers !

Conclusion

* objectif : se faire plaisir !
* pour ne pas être en concurrence avec la ville, il faut planter les endroits délaissés par les jardiniers municipaux : autour d'arbres, de poteaux, goutières...
* Si on plante des légumes, est-ce qu'on va pouvoir les manger même si des chiens font caca dessus et que les pots d'échappement échappent pleins de trucs pas bons dessus ? Plus sérieusement se pose la réelle question de la comestibilité des légumes plantés dans ce type d'espace urbain. Des recherches doivent déjà être effectuées, il faudrait en trouver les résultats et les communiquer pour que chacun soit au courant de ce qu'il mange.
* Rajoutons de la biodiversité en ville ! Réapproprions nous l'espace public !
* Autosuffisance alimentaire des villes... on en parle, mais finalement, est-ce que c'est possible ? Si on essaie pas un tout petit peu, c'est sur qu'on pourra pas voir beaucoup de changement !
* Marre de voir des pensées (les fleurs) moches dans les bacs prévus pour, toutes bien alignées et qui changent toutes les 3 semaines ! Si on faisait autre chose ?
* Peut-être qu'on pourrait faire deux choses différentes ? Planter des fleurs un peu partout où elles pourraient pousser et des légumes dans des endroits un peu plus abrités, pour un suivi plus régulier jusqu'à la récolte, et peut être même pouvoir les manger ?
* Pas de cadre trop défini pour cette action, il faut qu'on reste le plus souple possible, comme ça, tout le monde s'implique comme il veut, et tout le monde est content
* Initiation au jardinage de manière collective et ludique
* Avant, tout le monde avait un jardin. La ville ne nous permet plus de disposer de cet espace. Et si on se le réappropriait de manière citoyenne ? Si on recréait des sols ? Idée : liner de piscine + feuilles mortes suffisent pour faire pousser des fraises des bois.
* Côté éducation / citoyenneté pour que les enfants arrêtent de croire que les patates poussent sur les arbres et que les tomates se déterrent en hiver !
* Gratuité dans l'espace public ! Interpellons les passants en nous baladant avec des arrosoirs et des binettes !
* Des légumes font de super fleurs, pensons aux topinambours !
* Lancer des graines sur des chantiers par exemple peut être un bon moyen de lutter contre l'ambroisie.
* Idée ! Si on faisait des pochoirs en forme de carottes ou autre pour remplacer les fleurs à l'entrée des villes par des légumes ?
* Plantons par quartier. Organisons nous en petits groupes locaux pour planter vers chez nous. C'est plus sympa de le faire à plusieurs, mais c'est aussi plus sympa quand c'est en bas de chez nous ! On peut préparer les semis et les bouquets volants ensemble et ensuite, répartissons-nous géographiquement !
* Pourquoi ne pas faire une carte des lieux disponibles et repérés pour que l'on sache où mettre nos petites graines ,
* On peut aussi faire des tontines pour mettre les plants en hauteur et qu'ils soient moins touchés par la pollution urbaine
* En ville, tout est si bien organisé. Mais pourtant, ce qu'on veut, ce ne sont pas forcément des arbres et des parterres bien alignés. La nature à l'état "sauvage" n'est pas si présente autour de nous. Amenons-la, elle se débrouillera bien sans nous une fois qu'on aura lancé le truc !
* Les pigeons c'est bien, mais peut-être qu'il pourrait y avoir d'autres espèces d'oiseaux ? Si on plantait des céréales, ça pourrait par exemple attirer des passereaux ?
* Jardiner ensemble est un bon moyen de partager l'expérience, les bons coins, les bonnes graines...
* Lart potager pourrait peut-être remplacer les discussions autour des crottes de chien et les tags pendant les conseils de quartier ? Ce serait là l'occasion de faire tourner la discussion autour de sujets positifs !
* Le chantier du musée de la confluence est à l'arrêt pour le moment. Si on en profitait pour le recouvrir de fleurs ?
* Spontanéité, légèreté doivent être les cadres de cette action...
* Les robins des graines sont une action complémentaire des jardins partagés. Ils peuvent d'ailleurs s'aider mutuellement, en se prêtant outils, semences ou autre !
* Éveiller les sens, mais TOUS les sens !! Si les plantes dans la ville, c'est joli, on peut aussi faire en sorte que ça sente bon quand on passe. Alors plantons des herbes qui fleurent bon et aromatisons nos quartiers !

Conclusion

VIVE MONSANTO! A MORT LE BIO, VIVE LES OGMs !!!!

Si on faisait autre chose ?

Community is missing a member.

The place
Details: Furnished, street level, quiet neighborhood, central, 250 € a month.

The flat is 60 square meters, shared between 3 people.

The way it's been working in the past 2 years is that there is no proprietary space, we use the rooms a bit like we feel. But since there are three rooms (for 3 people), it is always possible to have some time on your own.

Location is pretty good. U Reeperbahn. There's a StadtRad station two blocks away, a good choice of markets and supermarkets. 10 min walking from the red lights or Fischmarkt or Schanzenviertel ; and pretty much everything in Hamburg is withing 20 min bike reach. The Elbstrand (beach) in particular is within walking distance (but a good 20 min).

Given the location and the size, the price is extremely cheap. The reason why is the way we share all the space, which allows us to live 3 people in 3 rooms and still have some common space. And it's been working pretty good in the past 2 years.

How to reach potential new bases?

Minutes of the meeting

Go and meet them.
:Sure. Personal contact. --Sitarane 16:41, 29 November 2009 (UTC)

Keep your eyes open when you're travelling, go and check potential places.

Idea: Nomadbase hunt. You (and any other nomad) go to a city without known nomad base and try to infiltrate the network of that place to find what's to be found.

Recycle the house of grandma.

For each profile: List of places you like. Get notification when new nomad base is being created there.

Some communities with good potential look for members on mainstream search tools (Germany: WG-gesucht). We may find some interesting things there.

If you start trying convincing people. They might drop out.

A place on the website to signal good occasions of flats. Where people that hear of a good deal but cannot take it can make it known to those that are looking.
Also list the flat-finding ressources per city.

At The Berlin SHE, a meeting took place on the subject of how to promote the concept of nomadbase. Only the last chapter is about concrete tools, but it is all based on the discussion that took place before and that is transcripted here.

Discussion
What is a nomad base for you? Opinions...
The more people join the more sustainable it is.
The network should not be closed.
A nomad place is a place with no limitation (less limitations?)
A new vision for property.

it is not a barther, you give what you have. it is about setting up a parallel system for people to share what they can. nomadbase is a good name, you travel, you offer something, it means you are open. it means skillsharing. learning/teaaching to cook, etc.

nomadbase is a place to work. i can do my stuff and I have access to the knowledge of other people. where I can assist other people. it is not even so much a place to chill for me, although i can accept it of other people do that. concept of nomadbase is not so new. it is like inventing fire over and over again.

A place where you can be yourself and do your stuff
A place to chill
It's not a political project
It's more turned to the individual and the team rather than the society.

There are places where you need to be for longer time to get a feeling of what is going on.
Opening the eyes of other people can be a long process.
It is good that it is easy to find.

a place to be. exposing it to the "right people". how you do that?

2 subjects: A base promoting itself / the promotion of nomadbase.org

What do you think we should be doing in this meeting?
We need to explain the concept to people that don't know what it is.
Nomadbases need to be involved with the local people.
Try to educate the world by the example.

Them and Us syndrome. We need to either involve them either to stay in good terms with them. We need to find positive recognition.

We are not against the world, we must be WITH it. Rainbow and Squat syndrome.

The problem with broadcasting
Casarobino is not promoting at all. They are extremely warry of media attention.

Person to person contact is much more reliable than publication.

But we must take the word out to the society. Do you mean we must hide?

One on one contact allows better understanding. In particular within a nomad base.

When you use the media you must have a very clear goal. A campaign.

Do we do it for ourselves or for the greater benefit of society?

Maybe the way for the concept to serve society better is to grow slowly and carefully.

There's media and media. Mainstream and specialised. Specialized media allows to hit more precisely.

When broadcasting, the poster is responsible for communication. No direct link to individual bases. Interested people get in touch with him.
:Wishful thinking. No way to control it. But it's a good "guideline" --Sitarane 18:01, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

Protection of the network? How do we do it.
:By telling a consistent message.

It's arrogant to think that our friends are the best people. We should reach the people and let them decide.

It's already hard enough to get consensus in a small group of relatively similar people.

Avoid splitting the network in the same way it happened to hospex.

Concrete suggestions
When we're travelling, find the nomadbases. Stay there and possibly involve them.

List of places to check: "I heard of a place over there, can someone check it out".
Notification to geographically close nomads.

List of (dated) creation intentions.

List of bases in bases in trouble.
:Forum can do that better.

Lightfoot letter if nobody can get there.

No email or impersonal contact taking.
Can inquire about a place by remote communication, but the actual connection to nomadbase should be done by people face to face.

Content type: Potential nomadbase, can be created by anyone. Can be upgraded to "nomadbase" by super-nomad.
Super-nomad is either someone that came to that conference or someone contaminated by them.

Another content: A "place" (everyone's address) can be upgraded to a "base"

Avoid verification.

Everyone can open a profile. And can create a place. If they think that their place would be a good base. They make a call and somebody comes and check it out. If X people say it's a base, it is a base.

Works for existing base and creating bases.

Conclusion
*Promotion should be done by people physically meeting other people.
*If a participant in nomadbase thinks that there is a nomad base that should be connected to the network, he should go there and introduce the idea to the people living there. If the people living there like the concept of being in touch with other similar places, they join the network on their own initiative.

Consequences on the website structure
*List of "places to check out" that can be accessed and populated by current participants on nomadbase.org. The content type "group" can be used for that.
*Anyone can create a profile on nomadbase.org.
*Every profile owner is given the opportunity to open their "place" (house, appartment) to travellers. A "place" is a genuine content type.
*Every owner of a "place" that thinks that his place is actually good for a nomadbase can transform it into a "base". When that happens, nearby participants are notified and suggested to go and physically visit the place.

In the case of a participant discovering an existing nomadbase that is not connected to the network (and that wishes to be). One of the people living there just needs to create a profile and open their "place" directly as a "base". The nomad that is visiting them can immediately add content to that new "base".

Nomadic people (Greek: , nomdes, "those who let pasture herds") are communities of people who move from one place to another, rather than settling permanently in one location. There are an estimated 30 to 40 million nomads in the world. While most of these nomads are part of rather traditional nomadic tribes, there is also a small but increasing amount of people (mostly in the Western world) who adopt a nomadic lifestyle, roaming around freely over a vast territory.

Other and older terms used to describe all kinds of nomads: hobos, itinerants, technomads, perpetual travelers, location independent professional, vagabond, tramps...

Humans have been surviving for hundreds of thousands of years as nomadic tribes, maximizing the effectiveness of the use of resources through sharing within their tribes. Still today, some of the harshest places on earth are inhabited by nomads.

Neonomads
What's that?
These elements were collected during a "What's a nomad" discussion at the 2009 S.H.E.

Neonomads are people travelling as a lifestyle, staying a few days to a few months in a place.

Neonomads value freedom and take freedom from simplicity. Hitchhiking, gift economy, dumpster diving are commonly practiced by nomads. They are likely to be trusting strangers, willing to share, according their needs and resources. They feel home in the place they visit.

A nomad goes beyond the concept of traveling to visit places. Traveling becomes a destination itself. They travel to learn (about others and about themselves) and to experience life. Some of the nomads travel for work, others for study, others to learn from random encounters on the road.

Neonomadism is a non-exclusive sub-culture. People can identify themselves as nomad to a certain extend without being constantly on the road, or they can be nomads for periods and live a more sedentary lifestyle at times.

Common Yearnings
* Social contribution, volunteering, meaningful projects, social revolution
* Trust
* Change
* Social identity, a tribe
* Integrity of our values, bend them as little as possible
** Punctual physical weakening
** How to keep the underground close to the surface, to not withdraw ourselves from all other 'realities'
* Staying connected without being online all the time

* Communication/relations with sedentary people - others who do not experience multiple shifting realities
** Keeping presence when faced to other peoples fears
* Stable intimate relationships
* Sustaining a family
* Other family responsibilities
* Go beyond superficial relationships
* Are we selfish because we don't come "back" when something happens "back home"?
* Spendings: ... and where and how to spend less

Social Participation
* Collaborate on long term projects
* Build social recognition: people assimilate freely neonomads, travelers, tourists and freeloaders, but these concepts do not overlap clearly, and carry different connotations.

Common cultural elements
* Curiosity - looking forward to learning about other cultures, other ways of doing things, other
* Priorites are defined differently because needs are defined differently
* Neonomads create the world that the live in
* Generally wary of labels - Maybe because we're nomads?
* Sometimes we are tired of travelling and must settle a bit... Sometimes we're tired of settling and we need to travel a bit...
* Nomads have little fears
* We want to be a little bit there and a little bit away at the same time...

Conception of Time
Most neonomads do not differentiate the days of the week, and treat each day as "another day". Therefore, they do not see week-ends as special moments.

They have a conception of time that is very anchored in the present. It's difficult for them to make plans further than a few months ahead, and if they do, it's very likely that these plans will change according to the opportunities they meet en-route. They usually have a flexible approach to scheduling. They can have very productive periods followed by rest days or travelling days, each of these feeding a different aspect of the nomad's life.

Conception of Space
Conception of Money
* Contributing to Society, paying taxes, hitchhiking, dumpster diving. Are these activities parasiting society, commensalism, or is it even productive? Our conception of the morality of these activities may differ a lot from the common thought.
* We feel we're more useful to society by living this way than being in a life we wouldn't like, with a regular job, etc.
Conception of Comfort & Material World
* Nomads belonging are also nomadic, especially clothes, furniture, tools..
* Ability to turn trash into food
Conception of Relationships
* Trust, regularity not needed so much as joy and moments of connection
* Sharing-oriented interaction
Conception of Travelling
*Travelling is not a holiday, but it's just life, it's the way life is experienced
* Travelling as an archetype of freedom. Freedom is freedom of thoughts, acts..

Neonomads, can be travelling with very limited amounts of money, through hitchhiking, gift economy, dumpster diving or just by trusting strangers, learning to receive, hence to give and share, according their needs and resources. They feel home wherever they are.

What is a nomad? A nomad is someone who believes that traveling (physically or mentally) is a way to learn (about others and about themselves) and to experience life.

* Trust
* Change
* Social identity, a tribe
* Integrity of our values, bend them as little as possible
* Environmental sustainability
* Time not wasted on things we don't support
* Deeper bonding - relationships
* Elements of stability

Common Needs
Basic Needs
* Rest, warm shelter (subject to seasons), quietness, sleep space
* Food
* Hygiene & health care
* Love
* Emotional support
* Physical integrity / Safety
* Personal space - although it's generally less than sedentary people, it's still a need, and we tend to forget it
* Exercise, sports, or play
* Support in case of emergency

Social & Actualization Needs
* Family, homely feeling
* Being in touch with other people - home, family, hosts, friends, etc, a place to receive mail
* Acceptance / Identity
* Growth, learning opportunities
* Opportunities to contribute to projects that value us
* Differentiate what we need from what we should/are told to do
* Discover other practices
* Meeting new people
* Share (like it's vital to do it..)
* Find balance, feel grounded
* Not to go through the same cycles over and over and re-do things endlessly
* Delearn/Unlearn
* Location-Independent techniques, methods, rituals

Technical Needs
* Internet connection
* Transportation - within cities or between cities
* A place to drop stuff, and respect of property / intimacy / organizational needs
* Money
* A legal status (avoid being deported)
* Working space (eventually a chair and desk), and uninterrupted quiet time
* Working material (stationary, art supplies.
* Find the next place you're going to be / sleep at
* Language skills/learning, communication, etc
* Nomadbase-type economic projects
* Networks & Communities
** Skill-sharing
** HospEx
** Intentional Communities
* Peer production infrastructures
* Mainstream institution support: grants, programs...
* Sponsorship opportunities
* Freeshops (spaces to exchange/swap goods - especially clothes)
* People we've met & their resources
* Willingness to use hidden resources, dearingness
* Freedom of thought, decision, location
* Informal education, Open Universities

Common Challenges
* Lack of residency status in any country
* Create (our own) reference points
* Exhaustion of the road and withdrawal
** Punctual physical weakening
** How to keep the underground close to the surface, to not withdraw ourselves from all other 'realities'
* Staying connected without being online all the time
Relationships
* Communication/relations with sedentary people - others who do not experience multiple shifting realities
** Keeping presence when faced to other peoples fears
* Stable intimate relationships
* Sustaining a family
* Other family responsibilities
* Go beyond superficial relationships
* Are we selfish because we don't come "back" when something happens "back home"?

* Sharing-oriented interaction
Conception of Travelling
*Travelling is not a holiday, but it's just life, it's the way life is experienced
* Travelling as an archetype of freedom. Freedom is freedom of thoughts, acts..
Rules of the game:

Lets describe a personality that would apply to 70% of nomadbase maintainers but would not be too specific.
We can use that "persona" to set the tone of our communication.
::I think more people agree to this. Julien who wrote this piece was just trying to make something useful. It was a day when he wanted to brainstorm with more people, but there wasn't anyone to brainstorm with! At one of the meetings here in Berlin we already concluded that there shouldn't be one nomadbase profile and that hence the proposed profile written down below is irrelevant. --Robino 00:39, 26 November 2009 (UTC)
:::True. I did not just use Casarobino as a template for that. I have been to a couple of similar places and tried to find some commonity (yep, that's a new word :) ) between them. Most of the time it was actually more than one maintainer, but it doesn't matter here. We don't mean to categorize the people opening their house, we just want to have a consistent picture in our mind when... writing an email to them for example. You don't write the same way when you have Idiana Jones in your mind and when you have Mother Theresa. It's just a communication trick. --Sitarane 10:00, 26 November 2009 (UTC)
So, what does a nomad base maintainer look like?
*Some sort of education.
*High degree of social skills
*Non conformist
*Alternative political views
*Strong personality - Don't like to be told what to do
*The ability to get things done even when everyone tells you to stop
*Always agrees with everyone
:" Can't always agree with everyone! Let's say he/she reaches consensus" E 10:33, 26 November 2009 (UTC)
*The perfect host: "is everyone's needs met?"
:"Same here. Can't be perfect. A good host, tries that everyone's needs are met." E 10:33, 26 November 2009 (UTC)
*Not necessarily traveler
*Curious about new/efficient social paradigm
*Lets pastamadre die every other week
:What?

When actually communicating, do it like if you were talking to the person described above.

:ad-hoc meeting here at the T-house disagrees with a nomad base profile. Though the idea would be good to think who to communicate to, it might be better to keep it simple here, so be able to have a more inclusive approach.
::This is not about website profile or virtual persona. It's just a communication trick. Here, I'll change the word "profile" and everyone will be happy --Sitarane 10:03, 26 November 2009 (UTC)
Disagreements
I disagree with this page. I don't think we need this at all. I would like to have a discussion about it before going further on this, especially since there are more people who strongly disagree with this page and strategy.

Instead of writing down a strategy I think it is far more important to understand our communication needs. Answering these questions should be part of a group deliberation, doing it over wiki might not be very effective for this.
* Do we want to communicate about this beyond our peers?
* If so, how far beyond?
* Who do we want inside out network?
* What are the priorities?
* How do we want to communicate?

Personally I think we should focus on existing projects, and forward these people to our knowledge base which would be on the website. Also I think that communication by way of lightfoot might even be more efficient than e-mail ;) Instead of focusing on this and going into lenghty discussions, maybe better to have focus on things that are more important?--Robino 13:42, 26 November 2009 (UTC)
Sitarane
