The Internet Archive is a big digital library project on the web. They got lots of free digital media, including books, audio recordings, movies and software as well as an archive of the (known?) web (the Wayback Machine). Everything is freely available on the web and people can easily put stuff there themselves (either material they own the rights to or from the public domain).
