Open Access is a very essential principle to sharing. It guarantees that everyone in general or the participants in a network have the right to access for example:

  • how something is build;
  • how someone can participate;
  • how things work;

Open Access contrasts with for example patents, closed source and copyright, which all tend to narrow down opportunities for sharing.
