How we want to keep the foundation and the projects

based on http://hitchwiki.org/en/Hitchwiki:How_we_want_to_keep_Hitchwiki

Spirit of cooperation - adhocracy, do-ocracy

  • Most action just happens - someone has an idea, goes ahead and does it.
  • In case there's doubt if all active participants would be happy with an action: we want a democratic work environment, where we first try to decide by consensus.
  • We encourage active member participation and try to keep convivial work environments.

Based on Roles

  • Ad-hocracy empowers some but can also disempower others. Having clear roles helps people to understand what they can do within a project, and keeps structures more clear for everyone

Transparency

  • As much communication and information as possible is and will be available on the internet. This excludes information such as server passwords, but it goes as far as what software and extensions are running on Sharewiki, and naturally a history of all edits ever made.
  • Many decisions are made and discussed in wikipages or a mailing list, accessible by everyone.

Free software

  • We exclusively use and create free software. We will participate in existing free software projects as much as possible.
  • The entire server stack, MediaWiki, any mailing list software, everything is and should be free. Skype for personal communication about the project is everyone's own choice but is discouraged - use IRC or Jabber instead.
  • The license of choice is the Affero GPL (for own projects)
  • The license of second-choice is the GNU GPL - if there is a choice between a GPL project and a BSD project that offer the same quality, features and community, the GPL project is the be preferred

Open data

  • We want to make database dumps available.
  • We want to support open formats and standards, such as OpenID and microformats.

Free licenses for content

  • Content of projects is licensed under the Creative Commons ShareAlike Attribution license or the CC-BY-NC-SA license.

International

  • Given enough interest, people are allowed and supported to set up their own language versions.

Not for profit

  • We aim for grant money and donations.
  • We don't want advertising or affiliate marketing. Ethical advertising such as Adbard would still be okay.
