Probably the main aspect of the World Wide Web experience the term Web 2.0 was coined for is the participation of its users. After a period of time when many were dreaming of commerce platform, where participants were thought as divided into pure consumers on the one hand and another party that provides all the contents and services and sells lots of stuff to the consumers, you were able to see masses of people taking back control of the web with projects like Wikipedia appearing as big, popular things. Suddenly the internet is seen as a great and big platform for people to share information and media and for collaboration. - The web as it should be, like some say.
