A cooperative (coop or co-op for short) is an voluntary association of people who work together towards a common goal or to satisfy common needs. It is an enterprise, that is - unlike ordinary capitalistic enterprises - operated as an autonomous, jointly-owned and democratically-controlled business.

Examples

A food cooperative serves the acquisition of affordable food for its members.
