Power over refers to the ability to get others to do things they would not ordinarily want to do. This type of power has four faces:

  1. Persuasion
  2. Punishment
  3. Rewards
  4. Force

Paralleling these four faces of power, there are four ways of thinking about resistance to power over:

  1. Refusal
  2. Voice
  3. Escape
  4. Creation
