A Fab Lab (Fabrication Laboratory) is a space where the manufacturing of high-tech solutions is facilitated.
A fab lab is a high tech workshop where we foster the emerging possibility for ordinary people to not just learn about science and engineering but actually design machines and make measurements that are relevant to improving the quality of their lives. As of July 2008, there are approximately 34 labs in 9 countries. The main fab lab website and server undergoes much flux and updates, alternatively the best source or the least updated. <ref>[1]</ref>
- Main Fab Lab site - hosted by the Center for Bits and Atoms, MIT
- Wikipedia entry - with a decent community-contributed list of fab labs around the world
- Fabfolk - the fab lab users’ group
The fab lab program was started in the Media Lab at MIT, a collaboration between the Grassroots Invention Group and the Center for Bits and Atoms (CBA) at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, broadly exploring how the content of information relates to its physical representation, and how a community can be powered by technology at the grassroots level.
